How HockeyScore works

One link puts the scoreboard on your stream. Whoever keeps score updates it from a phone, and the stream changes a second later.

The short version

  1. Make your scoreboard. Sign up and you get a scoreboard with two demo teams, ready to try.
  2. Add the link to your streaming app. It goes in as a browser source or web overlay, on top of your camera.
  3. Keep score from a phone. Goals, penalties, the clock and periods. Graphics play on the stream by themselves.
Your scoreboard home: the preview, the link to copy, and setup steps for each app.

Make my scoreboard

What you need at the rink

  • Something that streams the video. A phone running Streamlabs Mobile or PRISM, or a laptop running OBS or another desktop app.
  • A phone for the controls. Any phone with a web browser. Nothing to install.
  • Internet on both. Rink Wi-Fi or cellular data. The scoreboard itself uses very little data. The video is what needs a good connection.

Pick a setup

A helper keeps score (easiest)

You film, and someone else in the stands (another parent, a sibling, the backup goalie) keeps score on their own phone. You send them a link. They don't need an account or an app. This is the most relaxed way to stream a game, and nobody misses a goal because they were tapping buttons.

Share the controls

You do it all yourself

Put the streaming phone on a tripod, a clamp or the glass, pointed at the whole ice. Keep score from a second phone in your hand. The controls show one big Goal button and the clock, so you can update the score at the next whistle without looking away for long.

A laptop runs the stream

If you have a camera plugged into a laptop, OBS or another desktop app sends the video and the scoreboard sits on top. Keep score from your phone, or open the controls in a browser tab on the same laptop.

Your overlay link (it looks like hockeyscore.app/o/abc123) is a web page with a see-through background. Streaming apps can show a web page as a layer on top of your camera. When someone taps Goal on the controls, every copy of that page updates within about a second, wherever it's open.

  • The overlay link goes in your streaming app. It only shows the scoreboard, so it's safe if someone sees it.
  • The controls link opens the buttons that change the score. Only send it to people you want keeping score.
