Game day

Game-day checklist

The five-minute routine that saves you from finding out mid-game that the stream is muted.

The night before

  • Teams are right. Tap New game in the controls and pick tonight's teams and period lengths. Add a new opponent in Teams first, with their logo and colours.
  • Phones are charged, and you've packed a battery pack and a cable.
  • The streaming app is signed in to the right YouTube or Facebook account.

At the rink, before warm-ups

  1. Find a spot with a view of the whole ice, away from the glass reflections if you can.
  2. Mount the camera and frame a wide shot.
  3. Check the internet. On the streaming phone, open your scoreboard home and tap Check my connection. It tells you what quality to stream at and the bitrate to set.
  4. Open the streaming app and check the scoreboard is on the preview.
  5. Open the controls on the scoring phone, or send them to your helper. See Share the controls.
  6. Tap Goal, then fix it. Check the stream updates, then tap the score to set it back to 0.
  7. Check the clock. It shows the right period length for tonight's game.

During the game

  • Update goals and penalties at the next whistle.
  • Glance at the stream preview every so often to check it's still live and the sound is on.
  • Between periods, compare the score with the rink scoreboard.

After the final buzzer

  • Finish the game in the controls so the stream shows the final score. If you forget, HockeyScore finishes it for you about 10 minutes after the third period or overtime ends (unless the score is tied), or after 3 hours with nothing happening.
  • Leave the stream up for 30 seconds or so, then end it in your streaming app.
  • The game is saved in Games with its goals and penalties.
